American Bulldog


Description

The American bulldog is very sturdy framed, athletic bodied, strong jawed breed that is more agile and swifter than the English bulldog counterpart. Raised to be aggressive watchdogs, the American bulldog has a strong ferocious bite packed in its jaws. The American bulldog may have a variety of different shapes of ears such as the forward flap, rose, half-pricked, and cropped.

Temperament

The American bulldog is very loyal, brave, and determined, and always need a firm and consistent pack leader as they are instinctively very protective. A strong leader should be telling the American bulldog what to do since they can get into a lot of trouble wandering by themselves such as get in fights with other dogs.

Exercise

The American bulldog tends to drool a lot and will be extremely difficult to handle if you don’t burn off all that energy packed in them. That means daily exercise is essentially important and needed for every American bulldog. So take your American bulldog on a very long daily walk.

Health

The American bulldog is prone to hip dysplasia.

Litter

The average American bulldog bitch will have a litter size of around 11 puppies, although may vary anywhere from 7-13.

Origins of American Bulldogs

The original American bulldog were used by small farmers and ranch owners that helped around the house and aided in hunting for bears, boars, squirrels, and raccoons. They were also used the bull-bating sport. The American bulldogs have longer legs and a stronger body than the English bulldog and makes them faster and more agile.
