No matter what trick you’re training your bulldog, the same general concepts and rules apply for them all. Here are the general key points you have to follow when training any of the tricks.
1. Treats – Make sure your bulldog craves the treats. If they don’t get your bulldog excited, your bulldog may not really want to go through the motion of listening to you.
2. Attention – Don’t attempt to train your bulldog when he or she is not attentive. The most important aspect is to get your bulldog’s attention so it’s focusing on the command and what you’re trying to get out of it. This goes hand in hand with good, tasty treats. Use treats to get attention, and if you can’t, take a break.
3. Breaks – Take constant breaks when you notice your bulldog’s performance is getting worse. As soon as your bulldog stops paying attention and you can’t get it back, stop the training process altogether and come back a bit later.
4. Consistency – If you weren’t successful at training a trick the first time, obviously, you need to come back to it later. Consistency is important, so keep it up and you’ll see results.
5. Puppy Age – If your puppy can’t seem to grasp the tricks, it may be because it’s too young. Normally, a puppy would have to be at least 4-6 months old before learning the more difficult tricks, but puppy training should start as soon as possible.
Keep these simple basic rules in mind when it comes to training. I hope the best for you and your bulldog puppy training.
